CEU works with Partner Universities, GTFP Host Institutions around the world to provide teaching experience via Fellowships. Through the Global Teaching Fellowhip Program, a selected group of advanced doctoral candidates and recent doctoral graduates have the opportunity to teach at a GTFP Host Institution for a semester or an academic year. Global Teaching Fellowships combine teaching with research, thus giving the Fellows the opportunity to contribute to the academic and civic life of the Host Institution and have a fulfilling scholarly experience.
Over the past years, the Global Teaching Fellowship Program depending on the external funding avaliable and the inter-institutional agreements signed between CEU and the GTFP Host Institutions, provided GT Fellows with a set of benefits for example a monthly stipend or salary, coverage of the travel or medical insurance, a return airfare ticket, housing or housing allowance. In most cases the GTFP Host Institutions sponsored the teaching acitivities of the Fellows, and where it was relevant CEU co-funded the Fellowship. The financial responsibility for a Fellowship is shared between CEU, the GTFP Host Institution and the grantee, the Global Teaching Fellow. Details of the Fellowship(s) are described in the respective GTFP Calls for Applications.
All GT Fellows are integrated into the department of the GTFP Host Institution, have a well-defined teaching load and may have other academic and civic duties. The Fellows may be required to be involved in tutoring undergraduate, graduate students, giving talks, participating in workshops or similar academic events, and they are encouraged to participate in local community activities. GTFP Host Institutions will support the Fellows’ research agendas, making it possible for Fellows to continue to work on their doctoral dissertations if needed.
The teaching may be provided under the framework of an employment contract, or other form of affiliation (e.g.: scholarship), the academic status of the Fellows at the GTFP Host Institution may be e.g.: junior visiting faculty, visiting faculty, teaching assistant.
CEU is committed to ensuring that the institutions in which the GT Fellows are placed are appropriate, and that the academic positions and activities supported by the Fellowship enhance the Fellows’ academic qualifications meet workload goals, and are consistent with the educational objectives of the Teaching Fellow and the CEU doctoral programs.
GTFP Host Institutions may also have teaching/research postdoctoral fellowship or research schemes which they intend to open to the doctoral candidates/doctoral graduates. They have a strong and reciprocal interest in long-term collaboration with CEU.
