OSUN CEU Global Teaching Fellowship Program at the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS), in Johannesburg, South Africa

Call for applications for in the third and/or fourth teaching block 2024 Term (February - June 2024 or February  - December 2024)

The University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) invites applications for Global Teaching Fellowships to teach at WITS, Johannesburg, South Africa, in the third and fourth teaching block (February - June 2024 or February - December 2024) 2024 Term. The successful applicants will teach introductory or advanced courses in Economics (environmental economics), Law or Social Sciences.

Eligible applicants include Ph.D. graduates who received their Ph.D. degree from the CEU or a CIVICA member institution within the last two years and advanced (e.g. ABD all but dissertation) Ph.D. candidates.

The successful candidates will teach up to two courses, which will be set by WITS Faculty/Institute/Department in agreement with the Fellow. The language of instruction is English.

Successful candidates will receive a Visiting Fellow position and an honorarium from WITS by the standard rates for teaching at WITS. The salary is to cover housing, living expenses, health insurance visa application fee expenses. Additionally, a one-time travel expense (location-Johannesburg-location) will be funded separately from the salary.

  • motivation letter, indicating the teaching subject area of interest
  • resume (CV)
  • teaching philosophy (1,000 words)
  • two Letters of Reference (see details below)
  • English language proficiency (see details below)

Applicants who are CEU Ph.D. Candidates at the time of application:

  • Endorsement letter from the Supervisor (email or scanned copy)
  • or Endorsement letter from the Head of the Doctoral Program (email or scanned copy)

Applicants who are CEU Ph.D. graduates:

  • One Letter of Reference (email or scanned copy)

From CIVICA applicants:

  • two Letters of Reference (email or scanned copy)
  • English language proficiency minimum level C1 – if the Ph.D. studies were not in English
